Freelance rate calculator
“How much should I charge per hour?” If you guess the answer, it almost always comes out too low. Count time off, costs, platform fees and the time that doesn't go into client work, and find the real number.
Many people work it out like this: monthly income ÷ total working hours = BDT 375/hour. But that leaves out time off, business costs, the platform's cut, and the time spent writing proposals and answering messages. Your real rate is about 2.1 times that, and this gap is where most freelancers lose money.
You have 1152 billable hours a year, out of 1920 hours at your desk.
What to do with this rate
Quoting an hourly rate to a client is the weakest way to price: the talk turns to “how many hours will it take”, not “what do I get”. Use the rate for yourself: estimate how many hours the job takes, multiply, and then quote a fixed price.
And for work where you do the same thing again and again, make a package. Pricing the same job from scratch every time costs you time and pushes the price down.
One warning: this maths tells you what your work costs, not what the market will pay. If the number comes out far above the market, the answer isn't to cut your price. It's to increase your billable time, or to move to work that pays for results instead of hours.
If your rate is right but work still isn't coming in, the problem is usually your profile and proposals. We set up your Upwork and Fiverr profile: title, overview, gigs and 10 proposal templates.
